Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress, who is employed in the fields of film, television and the theatre. Her most well-known role is Teri Joe the fiery lawyer on her role on the Showtime series Soul Food. She is now known by her husband's name, Nikki Kodjoe. While growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always intrigued by acting. When she participated in the Maryland high school event in her early years of training, she was awarded the title for best actress. The path to acting began when she joined the Washington Ballet Company and theater. Contractor, a Mumbai-born Indian, who lived in Nigeria at the age of was seven years old. had a lot of knowledge about different cultures around the world and was able to travel at such a young stage. Her education was at the boarding school of London between 7 and 9 years. Her family later was relocated from London and moved to Toronto, Canada. When she was in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics and became a classical ballerina. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, a fine arts institution which focuses on theatre and dance. Contractor auditioned at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After one full year, she was given the leading role. In 2002, Canadian theater critics were awed by her performance in 92 performances of Pericles. The conservatory in Stratford accepts eight men as well as four females along with a couple of additional people to take a 20 weeks of crash courses. Contractor's participation in the next season's production was confirmed. She got the part of Hermia from A Midsummer Night's Dream.
